The Romanian Football Federation's Executive Committee, for the upcoming football season has ruled that a new medical protocol should be implemented to contain the spread of COVID-19 contaminations. The protocol will be quite similar to the one that has been put in place by UEFA in international competitions. Accordingly, should one or several footballers or officials of a club test positive for COVID-19 ahead of a match, the game will be held as previously scheduled, provided two requirements are met. First, at least 13 footballers should be included in the refereeing report, of which at least one should be a goalkeeper. Secondly, an official approval issued by the Public Healthcare Directorate should be produced at least 6 hours before the match, certifying the team can play the fixture according to the schedule issued by the organizing body. Should the club be unable to meet any one of the two requirements, the match is officially banned, and is subject to reschedule. The fixture will be rescheduled only once, on the first available date, but not earlier than 7 days. If games are pending at the end of the regular season and no date is available, the clubs on account of which the pending games could not be played will sustain a nil-3 defeat in the respective fixtures.
The Romanian Football Federation has also changed the regulation system in the case of League II. For the 2020-2021 edition, to kick-off on August 29, participating teams will play one against another only once during the regular season. Then, according to the table, the teams will be distributed in the second stage of the competition, Group 1 or Group 2. The first 6 teams in descending order will fight for the promotion positions in Group 1. This time, fixtures will be played according to a home-and-away system, so that each team will have to play 10 more fixtures. At the end of Group 1, the first two teams will be promoted to League One. 3rd and 4th-placed teams will play a playoff fixture against League One's 7th and 8th-placed teams in League One's Group 2.
