Goal-keeper Ciprian Tatarusanu has retired from the national team
Romania's national football team has had a below-par performance in the ongoing edition of the UEFA Nations League. With Mirel Radoi at the helm, the national squad came in 3rd in Group 1 of the competition's second-tier League B. The national team succeeded only two wins, a 3-2 home win in the match against Austria, and another win against Norway, which was unable to turn up for the game because of the coronavirus. The only good point as regards the Romanian team's record has to do with the fact that, following the group results, the national team will be included in the second-tier box ahead of the preliminary groups' drawing of lots as part of the 2022 edition of the World Cup, to be held in Qatar.
The World Cup campaign kick-starts in March. Until then, Mirel Radoi's position as national team's head-coach is uncertain. What we do know, though, is the fact that Ciprian Tatarusanu will no longer be the national team's goal-keeper. Tatarusanu has recently announced his retirement from the national team. At the end of a career that began in 2010, when Razvan Lucescu was at the helm of the national team, Ciprian Tatarusanu has recently made public his retirement last week, through a letter posted on the Romanian Football Federation's webpage. Among other things, Ciprian Tatarusanu wrote in his letter, QUOTE, I will soon be 35, so in the past months I mulled the idea of retiring and that's exactly what I did. The relationship I had with all the head-coaches in the last 11 years was very good and so was my relationship with the members of the national team's technical staff, so any speculations linking my decision to reasons that are different from those I'm sharing with you are totally misconstrued. I was summoned at the national squad, I played my part, I defended the posts for Romania and on that special mission I played to the best of my abilities. It's just that I believe it is about time for other keepers to come from behind, to defend the national team's posts, it's about time I myself took a step back. We have young goal-keepers, they are extremely worthy hopefuls for this position, we have experienced goal-keepers who at any moment in their career can successfully take the challenge, UNQUOTE.
Ciprian Tatarusanu's career began in 2003, when he was signed up by Juventus Bucharest. From 2006 to 2008 he played for Gloria Bistrita. From 2008 to 2014 Tatarusanu got signed up by Steaua Bucharest, the team with which he made his debut in League One and in the European Cups. In 2014 he signed a contract with the Italian team Fiorentina, then he moved on to the French team Nantes, in 2017. In France, Tatarusanu also played for Olympique Lyonnais. As of this year, Ciprian Tatarusanu plays for AC Milan.
