Romania had a good start in the 2020 European Championship preliminaries
Romania's national football team on Tuesday grabbed its first win in the 2020 European Championship preliminaries. In a match played in Cluj, our team defeated the Faeroe Islands, 4-1. The goals for Romania were scored by Ciprian Deac on minute 26, Claudiu Keseru on minutes 29 and 32, and George Puscas on minute 63. The goal for the visiting side was scored by Viljormur Davidsen on minute 40 from penalty kick.
Also on Tuesday, in the other Group F fixtures, Norway drew 3-all against Sweden on home turf, while Spain defeated Malta 2-nil at home. Romania will next play Norway away from home on June 7.
Romania will host four matches counting towards the 2020 European Championship, all on National Arena stadium in Bucharest. The first three games will be in main Group C, and the fourth will be a round of 16 game. The matches will be played on June 14, 18, 22 and 29, 2020. If Romania qualifies, our team will play at least two of its matches in Bucharest.
In other news from football, Romanian midfielder Razvan Marin, currently playing for Standard Liege in Belgium, could be transferred by Ajax Amsterdam in the Netherlands, according to the Dutch and Belgian press. Ajax wants Marin to replace the outgoing Frenkie De Jong, who was signed by FC Barcelona and will leave at the end of the season, De Telegraaf writes. It seems Ajax has reached an agreement with Standard for a 12-million-euro fee for a five-year contract. Razvan Marin played 37 games for Standard this season, scoring five goals. The team from Belgium transferred Marin in 2017 from Viitorul Constanta.
