The Romanian men's basketball team U-BT Cluj on Wednesday grabbed a 98-73 away win against Rahoveci of Kossovo. The fixture counted towards the first leg of the preliminary round as part of FIBA Europe Cup. The second leg is scheduled on October 9, in Cluj Napoca. If U-BT Cluj advances in the competition, it will be included in Group B, alongside Russian team Enisei Krasnodarsk, Sweden's Soedertalje Kings and Balkan Botevgrad of Bulgaria.
Two other Romanian teams play in FIBA Europe Cup. They are title holders CSM-CSU Oradea and vice-champion team CSU Sibiu. Both teams are part of Group D, jointly with Istanbul's Bahcesehir College and Fribourg Olympic of Switzerland,
Romanian cyclist Eduard-Michael Grosu of Delko Marseille Provence has taken the lead in Croatia's Cycling Tour. Grosu, who in the first leg came in 3rd, has won the sprint. Grosu clocked 4 hours, 24 minutes and 39 seconds for the distance of 183 kilometers. Following in descending order were was Australian cyclist Alexander Edmondson of Mitchelton - Scott, and Slovenia's Marko Kump of Adria Mobil. Both Edmondson and Kump had the same timing.
The World Athletics Championships are underway in Doha, Qatar. The 10-strong Romanian delegation has won no medal so far. Best-placed was Alin Firfirica, who came in 4th in the discus throw final, with a throw of 66 meters and 46 centimeters. Gold went to Swedish athlete Daniel Stahl, with 67 meters and 59 centimeters; silver went to Fredrick Dacres of Jamaica, with 67 meters and 59 centimeters, while Austria's Lukas Weisshaidinger walked away with bronze, with a throw of 66 de meters and 82 centimeters.
