The Romanian men's basketball side
U-BT Cluj have reached the group stage of the FIBA Europe Cup, after defeating
the Kosovan side Rahovec at home 91:47 in the second leg of the preliminary
round. U-BT had also won the first leg, 98:73. They will play in the
competition's Group G, which also includes Yenisey
Krasnoyarsk from Russia, Södertälje Kings from Sweden and
Balkan Botevgrad from
Bulgaria. Two other Romanian sides are playing in the FIBA Europe Cup: the
national champions CSM-CSU Oradea and the vice-champions CSU Sibiu, both in
Group D, alongside Bahçeşehir College Istanbul from Turkey and
Fribourg Olympic from Switzerland.

The Romanian football side on Thursday left for the Faroe Islands, which they
play on Saturday in Torshavn in a Group F match as part of the 7th
leg of the 2020 European Championships preliminaries. Romania are currently in
third place in the group with 10 points. Spain top the group with 18 points
followed by Sweden with 11. Norway are fourth with 9 points, then Malta with 3
points and the Faroe
Islands with no points. Also on Saturday, Sweden face Malta and Norway play
Spain at home. Romania have to defeat the Faroe Islands to maintain any chance
of qualifying for the European Championships. Next Thursday, Romania will be
facing Norway on the National Arena stadium in Bucharest, when they will again
need a win, while Sweden will be taking on Spain at home. If Romania defeat
both the Faroe Islands and Norway, they will face a decisive match on the 15th
of November, when they play against Sweden in Bucharest.
In other football news, the Romanian
international player Adrian Mutu will play his retirement match on the 13th
of June 2020 on the Cluj Arena stadium. A former captain of the national side,
he will play in a match between Team Romania and the World Stars team. The
Romanian side will feature among others Mirel Radoi, alongside Mutu as captain,
while the World Stars team includes such names as the Italian players Andrea
Pirlo and Francesco Totti.
