Matches for the European Championship playoffs have been rescheduled. UEFA decided that the semi-final of the EURO2021 playoffs pitting Iceland against Romania be reprogrammed for September, after having been initially rescheduled for June 4. UEFA's decision was taken to give priority to internal competitions. All domestic championships in Europe are set to close by July 15, considering matches are due to resume by June 1 at the latest.
UEFA has also set the dates for the other four matches Romania will host on National Arena stadium in Bucharest as part of the 2021 European Championship. On June 13 one of the teams that qualifies from the playoffs, which could be Romania itself, will play Austria. On June 17 the same team will play Ukraine. On June 21 Austria will play Ukraine, while a week later Bucharest will host a match counting towards the round of 16.
The management of CSM Bucharest has announced it would suspend the contracts of all athletes during the state of emergency declared due to the coronavirus pandemic. Club officials say that during this time all athletes will be paid an allowance tantamount to 75% of their owed salaries, but no more than 75% of the average gross salary provided by the law on the social security budget for 2020. According to Article 15 in the aforementioned law, the average gross salary based on which the social security budget for 2020 was designed is some 1,130 euros. Athletes can thus receive a maximum of 847 euros per month, which is very low compared to their negotiated salaries. The club's women's handball team, for instance, has four players that earned over 10,000 euros per month last year, with another six players had salaries above 5,000 euros.
