Three Romanian weightlifters who took part in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where two of them won medals, have been retroactively disqualified for this competition. The decision came after new tests revealed banned products in their urine samples, the International Olympic Committee announced as procedures were completed. The three are Răzvan Martin, Roxana Cocoş and Gabriel Sîncrăian. Răzvan Martin won the bronze medal in the 69 kg category, while Roxana Cocoş won the silver medal in the women's event in the same category. Gabriel Sîncrăian competed at the London Games in the 85 kg category, without being able to finish the competition. If Romania exceeds 20 doping cases starting with 2008, the number of places allocated to our country in the weightlifting competition at the Olympic Games in Tokyo will be reduced to two, out of maximum eight.
A new member of the Romanian national men's basketball team tested positive to Covid-19, ahead of the matches with Spain and Poland in the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 preliminaries, scheduled in Spain. The local organizers and the International Federation decided that the athlete should be quarantined, in a designated building. All other members of the team must stay in their rooms until their return to Romania, being only allowed to take part in trainings and official matches, as announced by the Romanian Basketball Federation. The Romanians will will be tested again for Covid-19 on November 27 and November 30. Other possible restrictive measures may be taken depending on the test results. There were six cases of Covid-19 detected among the team members before leaving for Spain, five athletes and a member of the technical staff having tested positive. The Romanians will be up against Poland in Valencia, on November 28, and Spain on November 30, in Group A of the preliminaries of the European Championship – FIBA EuroBasket 2022.
CSM Târgovişte qualified for the round of 16 of the CEV Cup in women's volleyball, after defeating the Ukrainian team Prometheus Kamianske 3-nil, on Wednesday evening, at home, in the second round of the last 16. The Romanian team had also won the away match, 3-1. In the eighth round, CSM Targoviste will be up against Mladost Zagreb, on December 8, in the Croatian capital. The match between the French sides Volero Le Cannet and Beziers Angels will take place on the same day. The winners will face each other in the quarterfinals, on December 9, also in Zagreb.
