SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea grabbed its second consecutive win in Champions League Group B. The Romanian champions won 25-23 against Buducnost Podgorica of Montenegro on home turf. The top scorer for the Romanian side was Ewgenija Minevskaja of Germany with six goals. Vâlcea will play its next fixture on Sunday on home turf against CSKA Moscow. The other Romanian team performing in Champions League, CSM Bucharest, was bound to play Rostov-Don of Russia in Group A this weekend, but the match was postponed due to a number of COVID infections reported at the Russian club. The match was due on Saturday. CSM has lost its last three games in the group, including the first match against Rostov-Don.
Former international player Cristian Dulca on Wednesday took over as head coach of Romania's women's football team, the Romanian Football Federation writes on its website. Dulca signed a 5-year contract and his objective is to secure qualification to the 2025 European Women's Championship. As a player, Dulca played for CFR Cluj, Gloria Bistriţa, Rapid Bucharest, Ceahlăul Piatra Neamţ and Gaz Metan Mediaş. He also played for foreign clubs, Pohang Steelers of South Korea and Honved Budapest of Hungary. He was a total of 6 caps for the national team over 1997-1998. As a coach, Dulca also trained FC Vaslui, FC Universitatea Cluj, Delta Tulcea, Gaz Metan Mediaş and Jiul Petroşani.
In other news from football, let us note FC Voluntari on Wednesday signed Helder Tavares, a Cape Verde midfielder with Portuguese citizenship.
