Monica Niculescu and Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko this past Wednesday got through to the women's doubles semifinals of the WTA tennis tournament in Doha, an event with 565, 530 USD up for grabs all told. In the quarterfinals, Niculescu and Ostapenko secured a 6-3, 6-4 win by the German - Russian couple made of Laura Siegemund and Elena Vesnina. Niculescu and Ostapenko thus secured 10,000 USD and 185 WTA points according to doubles' rankings.

In the final, Volei Alba Blaj are pitted against Turkey's Sistem9 Yeşilyurt Istanbul, a team that grabbed a two-leg win in the tie against their Turkish opponents, THY Istanbul, 3-2 in both legs. The Challenge Cup Final will be played in two legs, on March 17 and March 24, with the first leg to be played in Targu Mures, central Romania. Volei Alba Blaj's tie against Turkey's Sistem9 Yeşilyurt Istanbul is the third European final the Romanian team plays in the last four years. We recall Volei Alba Blaj plated the Champions League final in the 2018 and the CEV Cup finals in 2019.
The European Seniors' Indoor Athletics Championships are underway in the Polish city of Torun. For the event that will be drawing to a close on Sunday, Romania prepared a 15-strong delegation. Also taking part in the competition are four of the Romanian athletes who got through to the Tokyo Olympics. They are long-jump athletes Florentina Iuşco and Alina Rotaru as well as Claudia Bobocea, competing in the 1,500m race. Joining them is high-jump athlete Daniela Stanciu. The Romanian delegation's set target is the winning of at least one medal.
