Dozens of Olympic, world and European champions have joined the awareness-raising campaign initiated by the Sports and Youth Ministry, in a bid to step up the necessity for vaccination against the COVID-19 virus among Romania's population. So far, a series of vaccine-related awareness-raising clips have been broadcast by some of the top-flight athletes who have joined the campaign. They are athlete Gabriela Szabo, fencer Ana-Maria Popescu, tennis player Victor Hănescu, swimmer Robert Glinţă, gymnast Marian Drăgulescu.
Veteran athletes such as rower Elisabeta Lipă, swimmer Camelia Potec or gymnast Gina Gogean are soon to broadcast similar messages themselves, as part of the "Champions for life" campaign.
Swimmer Robert Glinta has won the bronze medal in the 50m backstroke event as part of the European Short Pool Swimming Championships hosted by Kazan, in Russia. In 25-meter short course swimming pool, Glinta clocked 22 seconds and 77 hundredths, a new national record. Russia's Kliment Kolesnikov and the Italian Michele Lamberti outperformed the Romanian.
Romania's national football team head-coach Mirel Rădoi has summoned a 26-strong pool of regulars ahead of the fixtures against Iceland and Liechtenstein, counting towards the Word Cup 2022. On November 11, Romanian play a home match against Iceland, while on November the 14, the national squad take on Lichtenstein, away from home. Playing in the same group as Romania, Germany has already secured its qualification to the World Cup. We recall the final tournament brings together the 10 winners in the event's preliminary group stage.
Romania has officially been granted the right to stage the strongest youth 3X3 basketball competition and the 2022 edition of the Under-23 3X3 FIBA World Cup, in the men's as well as in the women's version of the competition. Host country Romania has qualified to the World Cup by default, in the men's and in the women's version.
Dinamo Bucharest are the new title holders in the women's team epee event, as part of the National SuperLeague. Dinamo 1 have won all the six confrontations in the competition. Steaua Bucharest are the runner-up team, while 3rd placed are CS Riposta. Seven teams have taken part in the competition. In the men's version of the Superleague, CS Dinamo have won the title in the team epee event.
