The Romanian fencer Ana-Maria Popescu on Saturday won the Women's Epee World Cup hosted by the Estonian capital Tallinn. She defeated Russia's Violetta Kolobova in the final, 15:13. Two Chinese fencers finished second and third, Yiwen Sun and Mingye Zhu. Of the other Romanian fencers in the competition, Greta Veres occupied the highest position, 87th. Romania ranked 11th in the team standings.

On Friday, the Romanian champions SCM Ramnicu Valcea narrowly lost at home 21:20 in a dramatic match against the Montenegrin side Buducnost Podgorita.
