The main sports events this past week
This past weekend saw matches being played, counting towards the EHF Cup in women's handball, In Group B, Magura Cisnadie were thrashed by Croatian contenders Podravka Koprivnica away from home, 38 to 26.
In Group B's other game, Hungarian team Siófok defeated Danish opponents Kobenhavn Handball 36 to 23. In Group C, Gloria Bistriţa - Năsăud held Polish MKS Lublin to a 23-all draw, away from home. Danish side Odense Håndbold, are at the top of the table in the group. We recall Odense grabbed a 28-27 away win against Hungarian challengers ÉRD.
In news from tennis, worth mentioning is the fact that no Romanian participant has made headway into the singles version of the WTA Shenzen tournament, for which prize money stands at 775 thousand USD. In the first round this past Sunday, Sorana Carstea was defeated by Chinese challenger Xiyu Wang 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, while on Monday, Irina Begu sustained a defeat by Czech opponent Kristyna Pliskova, 6-3, 6-3.
In ice hockey, this past Sunday Corona Brasov grabbed a 5-2 home win against Miercurea Ciuc, in a match counting towards the domestic championship, but also towards Erste Liga regional competition. In another Erste Liga match, bottom of the table team Vasas Budapest grabbed a 3-1 win against ACSH Gheorgheni. SC Miercurea Ciuc are at the top of the table in the National Championship, with 48 points in 21 matches. Following is CSM Galati, 40 points in 15 games. Miercurea Ciuc are also at the top of the table in Erste Liga, with 83 points in 33 matches. Following are Ferencvaros Budapest with 68 points but with two fixtures less that the team from Harghita.
We go out with news from football. This past Sunday, Universitatea Craiova made public the transfer of former Dinamo Bucharest captain, midfielder Dan Nistor. 31-year old Nistor also played for Internaţional Curtea de Argeş, Muscelul Câmpulung, Dacia Mioveni, Pandurii Târgu Jiu, Evian in France and CFR Cluj.
