The weekend's main sporting events
Two Romanian teams this coming weekend are playing their fixtures in the Champions League in women's handball. On Saturday, away from home, HCM Baia Mare will be taking on Rostov Don. The Russian squad are the leaders in Group A, with three wins out of three matches played, while Baia Mare are third-placed, with 2 points on their record sheet. The first leg last week saw Rostov grabbing a 22-20 win against Baia Mare on the latter team's home court.
In a group D fixture on Sunday, Romanian champion team CSM Bucharest will be traveling to Podgorica to take on the defending European champions Buducnost. So far, Buducnost secured comfortable wins in all the three games they have played so far. The team from Montenegro's most recent victim was CSM Bucharest, a team that on home court last week sustained a 22-28 defeat in the game against Buducnost. CSM are the runner-up team in Group D.
The European aerobic Gymnastic Championships for juniors and seniors are underway in the Portuguese town of Elvas. At the competition's previous edition, held two years ago in France, Romania came in 2nd in the nation's competition with two gold and three silver medals. According to Agerpress news agency, in the general rankings of the eight editions that have been held so far Romania has a comfortable lead position, with a medal tally of 57, 25 of which are gold, 18 silver and 14 bronze.
Juniors' qualifying rounds are held on Friday, seniors' qualifying rounds are scheduled on Saturday, while the finals are to be held on Sunday. Taking part in the competition are junior athletes from 18 countries and senior athletes from 23 countries.
Games counting towards the 17th round of domestic League One's championship will be played from Friday and all through to Monday. Two games are to be played on Friday, as CSMS Iasi will be taking on Pandurii Tg Jiu, while Viitorul from Constanta will be facing Astra Giurgiu. In Bucharest on Saturday, FC Voluntari will be taking on CFR Cluj. The game will be venued on Dinamo stadium, while on home turf Poli Timisoara will prove their mettle against Dinamo Bucharest.
Two more games are scheduled on Sunday, as CS Universitatea from Craiova will be taking on visitors ASA Targu Mures, while on Bucharest's National Arena Steaua Bucharest will be facing FC Botosani. The leg's last fixture is to be played in Ploiesti on Monday, pitting Petrolul from Ploiesti against Concordia Chiajna.
