Two Romanian sides will be playing this weekend in the last but one leg of the Champions League in women’s handball. On Friday, Romania’s champions CSM Bucharest will be taking on MKS Lublin in an away game in Poland. The first game went to the Romanians 33-21. The Romanian side is ranking first in group D with five points, after Buducnost Podgorica with 7 points. Swedish side Savehof is coming third with four points, while Lublin is at the bottom of the table with no points. CSM comes after an excellent result a week ago, when they held Buducnost to a 23-all draw in Podgorica.
In group A on Saturday, HCM Baia Mare will be up against Krim Ljubljana, a Slovenian side, which has so far won no points. Baia Mare fares slightly better with only two points out of all the games played and stands only theoretical chances to qualify. The Romanians are hankering for a victory, which could boost their chances to qualify only if the Norwegians from Larvik lose to Rostov Don in Russia on Saturday. The qualification would then be decided in a direct game Larvik versus Baia Mare.
Romanian men’s handball squad Minaur Baia Mare will on Sunday be playing on their own turf Danish side Skjern Handbold in the Champions League group D. The two teams are on par ranking two and third in group D with 8 points out of 6 games, after Motor Zaporoje of Ukraine with 10 points out of 7 games. Also part of group D are Kadetten Schaffhausen of Switzerland, which has 5 points, Metalurg Skopje of Macedonia with 4 points and Elverum Handball Herrer of Norway with 3 points.
This weekend will see several football games in the first leg of Euro 2016 playoffs. We recall that Hungary secured a one-nil win against Norway on Thursday. On Saturday Ukraine will be up against Slovenia, while Sweden will be playing Denmark in a home game. Romania’s national squad is currently training in Mogosoaia, close to Bucharest, for their friendly against Italy on Tuesday, November 17th.
