Romania’s national football squad secured a 2-1 win against Lithuania in Vilnius on Thursday night, in a match counting towards the 4th group of the Nations League’s C series. Romania, which dominated the game almost entirely, obtained the win in extra-time with a goal scored by Alexandru Maxim. Chipciu had put Romania in the lead with a goal on 13 minutes but Arthuras Zulpa leveled the scoring in the 89th minute. This has been Romania’s first win in the competition after two draws, nil-all against Montenegro at home, and 2-all in an away game against Serbia. Our footballers hadn’t won an official away game since October 2016, when they obtained a 5-nil win against Armenia.
Also on Thursday in the Nations League’s group four, Serbia clinched a 2-nil away win against Montenegro. Serbia is ranking first in the group with 7 points, followed by Romania with 2 points less and with Montenegro coming third with 4 points. Lithuania is on the last position with no points. Romania’s national football side is to take on Serbia in Bucharest on Sunday. The group’s last 2 rounds are due in November; Romania, on their own turf this time, will be playing Lithuania on November 17th and will be up against Montenegro in Podgorica 3 days later.
And now let’s move on to women’s handball. CSM Bucharest will be up against German side Bietigheim in Ludwigsburg in a game counting towards the second leg of the Champions League’s group stage. In the first leg, the Romanian champions managed to outperform Ferencvaros 36-31, while Bietigheim ended in a draw, 27-all, their game against Norwegian side Kristiansand. Unfortunately, in the domestic championship CSM conceded a 19-22 home defeat against Ramnicu Valcea.
