sports weekend Romanian football side Viitorul Constanta has taken a big step towards the second preliminary round of the Europa League

The team owned and coached by former Romanian football star Gheorghe Hagi clinched a 2-0 win against Racing Union Luxembourg in an away match on Thursday night.


Denis Dragus put the visitors in the lead on 23 minutes, while Ianis Hagi sealed the points with a penalty shot 8 minutes from time. The return game will take place in Ovidiu, on the Black Sea coast next Thursday. If Viitorul wins they will next face Vitesse Arnhem in a first home game on July 26th with a return game scheduled for August 2nd in the Netherlands.


Romanian football side Poli Iasi has been outperformed by Turkish eleven Konyaspor 2-0 in the last friendly of their training campaign in Turkey. Mustafa Yatabare gave the hosts the upper hand in the 75th minute and Moyke Fofana added a second 10 minutes later.


Another Romanian football side Astra Giurgiu is training in Slovakia where they ended in a draw the matches they played on Wednesday and Thursday. The first match pitching Astra against Serbia's fresh first-leaguer Proleter Novi Sad, ended nil-all while their game against Belgian side OH Leuven was a one-all draw. Dutch Sam Hendriks put Leuven in the lead on 41 minutes, while Azdren Llullaku converted a penalty shot for Astra on 73rd minute.


The football season will officially resume in Romania this weekend with matches in the country's Supercup football tournament. In Craiova, southern Romania, local side Universitatea, which is also winner of Romania's Football Cup, will be up against defending champions CFR Cluj.
