Romanian capital Bucharest is these days seeing the World Under 23 Wrestling Championships. Romanian wrestler Nicu Samuel Ojog on Wednesday reaped silver in the 82 kilogram category of the Greco-Roman contest. He conceded defeat to Ghela Bolkvadze in the finals. The final scoring was three-all although the Romanian’ three-one lead lasted until the match’s last minutes. Romania has two medalists in the Bucharest championships; Ojog and Radu Mihut who stepped onto the third step of the podium in the 63 kilogram category.

 

Romanian athlete Marian Dragulescu went 6th in the Arthur Gander international gymnastic contest held in Chiasso, Switzerland on Wednesday. Dragulescu’s best mark, 14.600 was in the vault event but the Romanian lost points in the pommel horse event where he got only 11.600. German Marcel Nguyen went first in the contest’ ranking. In the last year’s edition of the aforementioned competition, Dragulescu went fourth, just as Catalina Ponor in the women’s contest. Marian will team up with the 43-year –old Oksana Chusovitina of Uzbekistan for the Swiss Cup, a competition to be held in Zurich.

 

Let’s move on to men’s handball now. Steaua Bucharest obtained a clear win against archrivals Dinamo, which they beat 35-30 on Wednesday in Chiajna, close to Bucharest. The match counted towards the 10th leg of the National League. Steaua dominated almost the entire game with a four-goal lead in the first half of the game. The gap grew in the game’s second half when the scoring was 32-24 to the vice-champions. Dobrogea Sud tops the ranking with 24 points out of ten games followed by CSM Bucharest with 22 points and two games in hand. Dinamo comes 5th and Steaua 7th.
