sports flash This week will see matches counting towards the 21st leg of the Football Championship of Romania’s League One.

The first match of the leg took place on Wednesday in Craiova, where Universitatea defeated Gaz Metan Medias 2-0. Alexandru Mitrita scored both goals on 52 minutes from a deflected free kick from Carlos Fortes, and on 87 minutes from a penalty kick awarded to Universitatea’s captain after a foul by Bradley Diallo. Thursday will see two matches pitting FC Botosani against Dunarea Calarasi and Astra Giurgiu against Dinamo Bucharest. On Friday Poli Iasi will take on FC Voluntari and Concordia Chiajna will play against Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe.

 

The last games will take place on Saturday. In Cluj FC Hermannstadt will play on home ground against Viitorul Constanta. Then in the evening Bucharest’s National Arena will host the championship’s derby pitting FCSB against CFR Cluj. Top-ranking at present are the team from Cluj with 43 points. Second placed are FCSB with 40 points. If the team from Bucharest wins at a differences of at least 2 goals, they will end up on first place.

 

The president of the Professional Football League Gino Iorgulescu made public on the organization’s webpage a communiqué regarding the weather conditions in which the football matches of the Romanian championship are taking place these days. He recalls that several months ago he proposed a system of only 12 teams in Romania’s League One to prevent matches from being played so late into the winter and to have a more competitive play-out.
