In news from women's handball, Romania's national team is in Japan, taking part in the World Championship kick-starting next week. Ahead of the departure to Japan, the national pool of regulars did not include the participation of Corona Brasov's Cristina Laslo, Bianca Bazaliu, Eliza Buceschi and Daria Bucur, who allegedly underwent intravenous laser infusions, a therapy line prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency. Montenegro national team handballer Ivona Pavicevic, who is also signed up by Corona Brasov, has also been denied participation in the upcoming World Championship for the same reason.

In news from football, on Wednesday night, Rapid Bucharest secured a 2-nil win against Second league top-of-the-table team UTA Arad, in a pending 10th round fixture. Thirty minutes into the game, Rapid's Austrian footballer Sandro Djuric and Catalin Hlistei, respectively, scored for their team. For the team from Arad, it was the second defeat in the ongoing season, so UTA is still at the top of the table with 32 points in 16 games.  CS Mioveni and Rapid are 2nd-placed, with 31 points each, in 17 games.
