New Year's Eve in Romania

new year's eve in romania This year as well guesthouses all across Romania have prepared a plethora of the events around New Year's Eve

Open-air shows, grandiose fireworks shows, gift markets for all ages, all of that fuels into the festive atmosphere sweeping Romania's large cities. Today we will be giving you some suggestions on spending New Year's Eve. We start with the region of Bukovina, in northeastern Romania, an area where the picturesque landscapes infuse the winter holidays with a specific charm. We talked to Marius Zamfir, the manager of a travel agency.

"In Bukovina, tourists can opt for a four-night package in a four-star guesthouse in Gura Humorului, with buffet breakfast, two lunch meals, a snack, and two dinners, including the festive dinner on New Year's Eve, with customs and well-wishers caroling the people. Tourists are also offered a meal and a bonfire on January 1 in the afternoon, with free access to the spa. Prices range from 480 euros to 560 euros per person".

You can alternatively spend a different kind of New Year's Eve in Poiana Brasov, at the foot of the ski slopes. And if you plan on combining winter sports with a cozy stay in a five-star hotel, then Brasov is the perfect destination. Marius Zamfir:

"In Brasov we offer five-night packages, starting December 29. Tourists are given a welcome dinner, buffet style, followed by a party and presentation of Romanian customs on the 30th. The New Year's Eve party has a compulsory dress code, this year the themed the 1920s. It's a retro party, of course, a very interesting one. On January 1 there will be another theme party, while on January 3rd in the morning tourists are offered a farewell breakfast. Prices start at 1,125 euros per person".

And if that weren't enough, if you do visit Brasov, don't forget to drop by Bran Castle, which is a mere 29-km drive from Brasov. You can admire the beautiful medieval citadel, built in the 14th century, which is in excellent condition, built on a rock 40 meters above ground level. The vampire Dracula is associated with Bran Castle in pop culture, but the history is different. Our guide here is Bogdana Balmus, who says 2020 will be a very special year.

"2020 will mark 100 years since Queen Marie became the owner of the Castle. In 1920 the Brasov City Council bestowed the Bran estate to the Queen, in recognition of her capital contribution to the achievement of the Great Union. We host a series of events that have become a tradition: the Jazz Festival in late August, the concerts by the lake, the World Cat Exhibition, the fair of the four seasons. Moreover, we will be organizing additional events to mark this special anniversary".

Tourists can come to Bran from the very start of the year, Bogdana Balmus also told us.

"Bran is a very special area, with friendly people and well-preserved customs. Tourists will certainly not regret their choice. The air is clean and the view is breathtaking. The Bran Castle restaurant offers special holiday meals. Starting January 1 you can sample tripe soup, to get your energy levels up for the start of the year. During winter time the restaurant chefs cook appetizing dishes, with various local specialties of pork and spices. For instances, we have cold appetizers, with homemade white pudding, black pudding, pork scraps and a variety of cheeses. The main course is either roast pork with smoked paprika and ragu of pickled bell peppers and celeriac, served with cheesy Polenta and cummin powder on the side. For desert we have a special-flavored Koliva with honey infused with garlic and coffee."

Spa tourism continues to represent a strong segment in Romania, even around the New Year. You can spend the New Year's Eve at Baile Felix, one of the most popular spa resorts. Marius Zamfir:

"For New Year's Eve, at Baile Felix, we offer five-, six- or seven-night packages, starting December 27 and ending on January 5. The price is 1580 euros for a double room, which includes breakfast, buffet dinner, a welcome dinner on the 29th, the Romanian Customs Party on the 30th, the New Year's Eve party on the 31st, with a special menu. Then on January 1st we will have a live music party. Tourists are free to take part in various leisure activities offered at the hotel or elsewhere in the resort".

You are thus invited to join us for an unforgettable party to usher in the New Year in one of the guesthouses mentioned. Happy New Year!
