Ramona Ionel has won the first medal for the Romanian delegation taking part in the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne. On Wednesday, Ramona walked away with bronze in the mixed teams sprint skating event. Ramona teamed up with Russia's a Valeria Sorokoletova, the American Jonathan Tobon and Tuukka Suomalainen of Finland. The other Romanian taking part in the same event, Ilka Fuzesy, was a whisker away from winning a medal, since her team came in 4th. Ilka's teammates were Italian skater Serena Pergher, Spain's Nil Llop Izquierdo and Sukhoon Kang of SouthKorea.

Ice hockey team Corona Brasov has sustained a 5-7 away defeat by Hungarian opponents Dunaujvarosi Acelbikak this past Wednesday, in a fixture counting towards Erste Liga regional competition. Sport Club Miercurea Ciuc are at the top of the table, with 86 points. Following are Ferencvaros Budapest, with 80 and Corona, cu 65 points.

Former Romanian international footballer Adrian Mutu on Wednesday was officially introduced as the new head-coach of Romania's Under-21 team. Mutu is in for Mirel Radoi, who has been recently appointed head coach of Romania's national team,. Mutu's record as a head coach is not quite impressive. He was at the helm of FC voluntary and UAE club Al Wahda's Under-21 team. However, as a footballer, Mutu boasts 77 caps for the national squad. He was the national team's most efficient scorer, with 35 goals, standing on a par with football legend Gheorghe Hagi.

Mutu made his debut with FC Arges, then he had a stint with Dinamo Bucharest , Adrian Mutu got transferred to Italy's Inter Milan, then to Verona and Parma. In 2003, Mutu was signed up by English club Chelsea for 16 million GBP, a record sum of money at that time. However, in September 2004, Mutu got the sack from Chelsea, having admitted to taking cocaine. Mutu was suspended for 8 months, and then he got transferred back to Italy's Juventus Turin. When Juventus was relegated from Serie A, Mutu was signed up by Fiorentina, where for long he was rated as one of the leaders of the team. He also played for Cesena, for Ajaccio in France and for Petrolul Ploiesti, back in Romania. Adrian Mutu played for Indian team Pune City and ASA Targu Mures, for the final part of his footballer's career.
