Romanian women's handball team Dunărea Brăila has got through to the group stage of EHF European League, which is Europe's second most important competition after the Champions League. Dunarea Braila won both legs of the tie they played on home court against Danish team Viborg. The tie counted towards the EHF European League's third preliminary round. On Saturday, Dunarea Braila grabbed a 26-24 win, while on Sunday, they won again, 32-28. Also in the third preliminary round, another Romanian team, Gloria Buizau, was outclassed by French opponents Nantes. On Saturday, Gloria succeeded a 27-21 home win. In the first leg, however, Nantes won, 23-16, so Nantes were the winners of the tie, on aggregate.  The competition's next stage includes four groups with four teams each and will kick off in January 2021.


In news from ice hockey, ACSH Gheorgheni on Sunday grabbed their third consecutive win in the Erste Liga ongoing regional competition season. ACSH Gheorgheni grabbed a 4-1 home win against Dunaujvarosi Acelbikak. ACSH made the difference in the first half of the match, when they scored 3 goals. ACSH Gheorgheni rank 6th in the standings, with 11 points in 9 games. Top of the table are MAC Budapest, with 26 points in 12 games. Following are Ferencvaros, DEAC Debrecen, Corona Braşov and Ujpest.


Matches counting towards League One's domestic championship  in football were played this past weekend. On Friday, in Iasi, the local team Politehnica were held to a 1-all draw by FC Arges. In Bucharest, Dinamo succeeded a 3-nil win in the game against FC  Voluntari. On Saturday, Academica Clinceni grabbed a 1-nil home win against Viitorul Constanta The game pitting FC Botosani against Universitatea Craiova ended in a blank draw. On Sunday in Medias, Astra Giurgiu grabbed a 1-nil win against FC Hermannstadt. The surprise of the round was provided by the newly-promoted UTA Arad's 1-nil win against defending champions CFR Cluj. Universitatea Craiova are at the top of the table, with 25 points, while the runner-up team are FCSB, with 24.
