Romania's best tennis player, this past Monday turned 30. Simona Halep was born on September 27, 1991, in Constanta, in the south-east, into a family of Aromanian origin. Simona Halep was attracted to practising sports from a very early age. So, she took up playing tennis at the age of 4, having training sessions on a daily basis at the age of 6. Simona made her debut in professional tennis in 2006, when she played her first matches in the ITF circuit. In 2010, she earned her position among the world's top 100 players. In August 2014, Simona succeeded her career-best at that time, since she was 2nd-placed according to the WTA rankings, back then the best position ever for a Romanian tennis player. In October 2017, Simona Halep was at the top of the WTA rankings uninterruptedly, until January 2018. Simona Halep regained her position at the top of the rankings in February the same year and stayed there until early into 2019, after the Australian Open. Simona Halep maintained her position at the top of the WTA rankings for 64 weeks. Her record includes two Grand Slam wins, in Roland Garros, in 2018 and in Wimbledon, in 2019. According to her webpage, Simona Halep has a net worth of almost 38 million USD.


For fifteen years, Simona Halep dedicated most of her life to tennis. In the past months, however, Simona opted for focusing on her personal life. She took better care of her health since she affected by several injuries she repeatedly sustained while in competition. In mid-September, Simona Halep got married. Her spouse is 42-year-old Toni Iuruc, a businessman who was also born into the Aromanian community.


As of late, Simona Halep has chosen another coach for herself. She has made public the termination of the contract with Daren Cahill, an Australian she had been working with since 2015, on and off. While working with Cahill, Simona Halep won her first Grand Slam title, also maintaining the lead position according to the WTA rankings. Simona's new coach is Adrian Marcu, a Romanian she worked with in 2013. Marcu told the press he would work to the best of his abilities so that Simona can return to a more aggressive style of play and yet again climb up in the world rankings. At the moment, Simona Halep is WTA 15-th placed.
