Seven categories of Romanian cultural sites and monuments are included on the UNESCO world heritage list, all being considered Romania’s greatest tourist attractions.

 

Included on the UNESCO list are 8 churches and monasteries from Bukovina, 8 wooden churches from Maramures, 5 Dacian fortresses from the Orastie Mountains, the Hurezi Monastery in Oltenia, the medieval fortress in Sighisoara, southern Transylvania, the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, as well as the Saxon fortified villages and churches from Transylvania. Out of the more than one hundred Saxon settlements in Transylvania, 7 are included on the UNESCO heritage list: Biertan, Calnic, Darju, Prejmer, Saschiz, Valea Viilor and Viscri, all of them being located in southern Transylvania
