More than 500 guests, personalities, people of culture and celebrities attended on Monday at the National Theatre in Bucharest the 46th Romanian Filmmakers Union Awards Gala, one of the most awaited events of the year. The film ‘The Fixer’ by Adrian Sitaru won the Grand Prize and the Romanian Filmmakers Union Trophy for 2017. The best director award went to Calin Peter Netzer for ‘Ana, mon amour’, a film that won prizes in another four categories of the gala: the jury’s special award, the best actress in a leading part (Diana Cavallioti for Ana), the best actor in a leading part (Mircea Postelnicu for Toma) and the best editing award, won by Dana Bunescu.

Dana Bunescu was also the recipient of the Golden Bear in Berlin, in 2017, for the same film. ‘One Step Behind the Seraphim’, a feature film made by Daniel Sandu, won the best screenplay award (Daniel Sandu), best supporting actor (Ali Amir for Aid) and the best original scores award (Adrian Enescu — Marius Leftarache). The Union’s award for best supporting actress was won by Amalia Ciolan, for the part of Maria in the film ‘Offstage’. The best photography award went to Oleg Mutu, for ‘Perfectly Healthy’ and ‘The End of Summer’. In the ‘best soundtrack’ category, Mihai Orasanu got the trophy for ‘Portraits in the wood’ and ‘I kick, therefore I exist’. The best costumes award went to Doina Levinza and Adina Bucur for ‘6.9 on the Richter scale’, and the stage directing award went to Alexandra Alma Ungureanu for ‘Perfectly healthy’. The award for best long reel documentary film was won by director Andrei Teodorescu for ‘Party Music’, while the short-reel fiction award went to Adrian Silisteanu for ‘Written/Unwritten’.

The jury was made up of the photography director, producer and director Vlad Paunescu, film critic and historian Dana Duma, stage director and vice-president of the Filmmakers’ Union Radu Corciova, actress Dana Dogaru, writer, screenwriter and journalist Bogdan Ficea, director and screenplay writer Serban Marinescu, film critic Magda Mihailescu and film director and film critic Laurentiu Damian. The jury was presided by the well-known director Dan Pita. The awards gala, which is one of the most prominent events of the year, celebrates and supports cinematographic values by awarding all those who had an outstanding performance in the field, represented Romania in the world and brought a significant contribution to the cinematographic industry.
