The club teams in European football have entered a short competitive break. The reason is the match schedule of the national teams, with meetings in the coming days, within the preliminaries of next year’s World Cup. Many of the squads that do not have two official games scheduled, have also made time for a friendly match. This is also the case of the Romanian national team, which will meet, on Friday, in Bucharest, in a test match, the Canadian team. An away match will follow on Tuesday, with the Cypriot national team, part of the World Cup preliminaries.

European club competitions will resume at the end of September. FCSB, the Romanian champion, will play in the main group of the Europa League and has its first match on September 25, in the Netherlands, in Deventer, against the Go Ahead Eagles team. Following last week’s draw, the Bucharest team will face two teams from Switzerland, namely Young Boys Bern and FC Basel, and two from the former Yugoslavia: Red Star Belgrade and Dinamo Zagreb. Another team from the Netherlands, Feyenoord, one from Turkey, Fenerbahce, and Bologna, from Italy, are added. After the confrontation with Go Ahead Eagles, FCSB will play, on October 2, at home, against Young Boys. FCSB will also be up against Bologna, Feyenoord and Fenerbahce at home, and away, against Basel, Red Star and Dinamo Zagreb. Last season, FCSB reached the round of 16 of the competition.

In the Conference League, the main phase, Universitatea Craiova will play six games, all against strong opponents. These are the Greek team AEK Athens, the German team Mainz, Rapid Vienna from Austria, the Czech team Sparta Prague, the Poles from Rakow and Noah, the champion of Armenia. The first game of Universitatea Craiova is scheduled for October 2, away, in Rakow. There will be home matches against Noah, Mainz and Sparta, and away matches against Rapid Vienna and AEK Athens.
