Sports Weekend

Romanian
football champions CFR Cluj drew 1-all at home against Young Boys Berne of
Switzerland in Europa League Group A. Mario Rondon scored the first goal for CFR
on minute 62, but 7 minutes later the Swiss team evened the odds with a goal
scored by Christian Fassnacht. The match was balanced and quite physical. The
visiting side had numerous scoring opportunities, but the response from CFR was
also solid. In the other Group A fixture, AS Rome of Italy drew nil-all against
CSKA Sofia of Bulgaria at home. CFR remains the group leader with 4 points in 2
matches, the same as Rome, but with a better goal-average ratio. Dan Petrescu’s
trainees will next play AS Rome away from home on November 5, and again on
November 26 at home.
