The main sporting event of the tennis world in the past two weeks was the US Open. The women’s competition in the prestigious event was won by Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus while the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz emerged as winner of the men’s contest.
The best Romanian participation in the singles draw was achieved by Jaqueline Cristian who had made it to the competition’s third round, which was a first of her participation in the US Open. The last Romanian in the contest was Elena Gabriela Ruse, who, together with Marta Kostiuk of Ukraine, made it to the round of 16 of the doubles contest.
