The three exhibitions on show, curated by Ana Janevski of MoMA New York and independent Tevž Logar, explore the fine line between history and contemporaneity in the works of 60 local and international visual artists, from over 30 countries.
Delving into the complexity of the city of Timișoara and its historical areas, the Art Encounters 2025 Biennial places into the limelight the idea of ”echo”, regarded as a living, essential link between memory and creation.
The three exhibitions are mounted in three spaces, emblematic for the history of Timisoara and the transformations it has gone through: the Garrison Command, a landmark of the city’s military past, now turned into a space for artistic dialogue; FABER, a former soap factory, re-imagined as a place for creation and collaboration; Art Encounters Foundation, a meeting point for new ideas and perspectives, with a rich industrial and educational heritage.
RRI’s Eugen Cojocariu has had a talk, in Bucharest, with one of the curators, Tevž Logar, on the Biennial and on the recently opened solo exhibition of Marius Bercea, a Romanian visual artist established in the USA.
