The number of work permits issued to foreign citizens since the beginning of the year until September 30 has reached almost 85,000, representing 72.4% of the annual contingent approved by the authorities of 100,000 foreign workers, the General Inspectorate for Immigration (GII) announced. The GII shows that most of the permits were issued for permanent workers, 262 people received employment permits as posted workers, 214 permits were for highly qualified workers and 177 for seasonal workers. Another 43 permits were issued for people transferred within the same company, while 4 permits were granted for “au pair” workers and one permit for an intern worker. The Inspectorate says that it will continue to support employers in Romania by digitizing and streamlining the procedures for issuing permits, in accordance with the legal regulations in force.
Immigration police officers are running, between October 6 and 12, an information campaign addressed to employers who have foreign citizens employed and to foreigners who wish to carry out profit-making activities in Romania. The campaign is run nationwide, together with representatives of the territorial labor inspectorates. According to the Inspectorate, the objective of the initiative is to provide information on the legal conditions under which work can be performed on the territory of our country, as well as to present the rights and obligations of employers and foreign employees. Through these activities, immigration police officers and labor inspectors aim to prevent undeclared work and contribute to a better integration of foreign citizens on the Romanian labor market, the Inspectorate specifies. The action takes place in the context in which, at the end of last month, in a single day, over 500 people were identified working without employment contracts at a courier company in Bucharest.
128 companies in the field of alternative passenger transport, which were operating illegally, defrauded the Romanian state budget of 175 million lei (over 34 million Euros), informs the National Agency for Fiscal Administration. The fraud was discovered last week, following a national control action initiated by the General Directorate for Anti-Fiscal Fraud. In order to prevent the theft or concealment of goods, the control body instated precautionary measures on the assets, bank accounts and traceable amounts held by the respective ride-sharing platforms, in order to fully recover the damage. The way in which most of the companies investigated operated indicated to the Agency’s inspectors the avoidance of tax obligations through fictitious free loan agreements, illegal payments and failure to declare income, illegal or under-declared work and the failure to register taxable income. The controls also revealed non-compliance with the obligation to equip the cars with electronic fiscal cash registers, although fares were collected in cash. The Fiscal Agency representatives state that the control actions will continue in the coming period.
