VOTE Over one 1.2 million Moldovan citizens already cast their ballot until 17 hours local time, to elect the 101 MPs in the unicameral Parliament in Chisinau. According to the Central Election Committee, turnout at the mentioned hour was over 42%. Roughly 3.3 million eligible citizens of the Republic of Moldova are expected to cast their ballot today for the 101 MPs in the country’s unicameral Parliament. They are voting for a Legislature to decide the future of the ex-Soviet Romanian-speaking republic. The republic will either maintain its course and kick off talks for EU accession or drop the democratic reforms and rejoin Moscow’s sphere of influence. The ruling pro-European Party for Action and Solidarity and several pro-Russia blocs are vying for Parliament seats. The election unfolds against several attempts to influence the voters, destabilize and spread disinformation, as well as cyber attacks, the Moldovan authorities are blaming on Russia. The Moldovan citizens abroad are able to vote in over 300 polling stations, most of them in Italy, Germany, France, Britain and Romania. In Romania, they can cast their ballots in 23 polling stations all over the country. The polling stations will close at 21 hours.
