MOODY’S During a meeting with representatives of the international rating agency Moody’s, the Romanian Prime Minister, Ilie Bolojan gave assurances the Executive would be focusing on the processes aimed at achieving economic consolidation and growth. At the same time the head of the Romanian government underlined the importance of stability, predictable policies, both from the economic point of view and that of regaining the citizens’ trust in the Romanian state. Also attending the meeting, the Romanian Finance Minister, Alexandru Nazare has also mentioned the headway in the process of digitizing the fiscal administration, which will lead to the improvement of collection as well as the economic incentives the government pledges to implement. The meeting comes against the periodic assessment of Romania’s macro-economic and fiscal developments and the government’s efforts to obtain from the European Commission a reassessment of the payment application, dependent on the magistrate pensions’ reform, with 231 million Euros of the PNRR at stake.

AIRCRAFT Three Eurofighter Typhoons belonging to the Spanish Air Forces together with a detachment made up of 60 Spanish servicemen (pilots and technical personnel) have arrived at Airbase 57 Mihai Kogalniceanu, south-eastern Romania. For approximately three weeks they will be executing enhanced Vigilance Activity missions under NATO command, which also involve the participation of Romanian and German servicemen. “These joint actions play an essential role in our security: they defend and assure the integrity of Romania’s airspace; they develop the country’s response and deterring capabilities; they consolidate interoperability between all participant allied forces, a Defence Ministry communiqué says.

FAIR Romania will be presenting its literature and culture as an honorary invitee to the 80th edition of the International Book-fair in Frankfurt, over October 11 and 15, the world’s most important fair of books and creative industries, through the signing at the Culture Ministry on Friday of the formal accord on this statute. The document was signed by the Minister of Culture, Andras Istvan Demeter, and the director of the aforementioned book-fair Jurgen Boos. The latter recalled the ‘connections with the German-speaking world, which have grown in the past decades; he has also mentioned Herta Muller, the contribution of the German-Hungarian communities as well as the literature in the Republic of Moldova and other cultural areas. ‘New translations will be produced, editors will be traveling and establishing new contacts and the German-Romanian projects will be completed step by step. The Romanian literature will become more visible in Germany and at international level’, Juergen Boos went on to say. In turn, Culture Minister Demeter says ‘that for the Culture Ministry this project means a major opportunity to consolidate the Romanian literature’s image and make it visible at world level.’ The minister has underlined the Romanian and international institutions can support a coherent effort of translating Romanian literature into German and other languages of international circulation, as well as the creation of dedicated programmes and special support sessions for translations.

WEATHER The National Administration of Meteorology on Friday issued a code yellow alert of strong wind and mixed precipitations, including snow storms for 16 counties and the city of Bucharest until Sunday morning. According to the same sources, strong winds have been forecast in the east, south and Carpathians starting on Friday evening. Rain showers will be turning into snow in the aforementioned regions with the exception of the Romanian Black Sea coast. Snow storms are also expected to reduce visibility under 100 meters.

HANDBALL In the Champions League, the Romanian men’s handball side, Dinamo Bucharest, has conceded a 21-27 defeat in a home match against the finalist of the past edition, the German side, Fuchse Berlin. Fuchse tops the ranking in Group A with 20 points, while Dinamo Bucharest is at the bottom of the group and will be taking on Hungarian side Veszprem on February 25.
