TALKS Germany, France and Britain have urged Iran to carry on talks with the United States over its nuclear programme in a meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, involving the participation of foreign ministers of the three countries and their Iranian counterpart. They have been joined by the EU Foreign Policy representative, Kaja Kallas. The Europeans wanted to make the most of this opportunity, to kick-start the talks over Iran’s nuclear programme and give diplomacy a chance in the armed conflict between Israel and Iran. Just like the Atomic Energy Agency, the Europeans are afraid that a direct attack against some operational nuclear plants in Iran could have a devastating effect, releasing in atmosphere radiations which could wreak havoc on the environment and people’s health over a large surface of land.
MINISTER The PNL leader, Ilie Bolojan, has been designated by President, Nicusor Dan, for the position of Romania’s Prime Minister. His nomination comes after several weeks of intense and difficult negotiations between the president, the leaders and experts of the four pro-European parties in Bucharest Parliament, PSD, PNL, USR and UDMR. They were joined by MPs from the National Minorities Group. The president has thanked the pro-European parties for the efforts made in the process of forging a new government and for regaining the country’s financial balance by curbing its excessive budget deficit. Dan says it is in Romania’s interest that the government be backed by a solid majority as the key priority is the country’s economic relaunch. The Prime Minister designate, Ilie Bolojan, has mentioned among his priorities the regulation of the country’s financial system and the creation of development conditions in Romania.
FLIGHT 37 people, Romanian citizens and family members, were evacuated from Israel on board of a military plane through Egypt on Friday night. In the entire process, the Romanian nationals benefitted from support from the Romanian embassy in Tel Aviv, of the Romanian Consulate in Haifa and the Romanian Representation Office in Ramallah, the Romanian Embassy in Cairo and from a mobile team of the Romanian Foreign Ministry (MAE). The Romanian Foreign Ministry is in permanent contact with the authorities and the Romanian citizens who announced their presence in the conflict area in order to identify the best solutions for their repatriation in safe conditions. An MAE crisis cell continues to cooperate with both the Romanian diplomatic and consular missions in the affected countries and with the representatives of other EU member countries.
