DEFENSE – On Tuesday, Defense Minister Ionuţ Moşteanu said that America will remain present in Romania, and the United States is the country’s main strategic defense partner. “We have a very good relationship with the USA, a relationship that continues and is getting stronger”, the Minister said. The statement comes in the context of the repatriation of approximately 800 American soldiers from the Mihail Kogălniceanu Base (Constanța County, southeast) who will no longer be replaced on the rotation for Eastern Europe. On the other hand, also on Tuesday, Ionut Mosteanu met with Admiral Pierre Vandier, the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, who is visiting Romania. Talks focused on the importance of innovation and digital transformation in the context of new security and defense challenges.

FORUM – President Nicușor Dan on Wednesday will receive NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who is on his first visit to Romania since taking over the leadership of the Alliance, the Presidential Administration reports. The agenda for talks will include threats facing the North Atlantic Alliance, especially the Eastern Flank, as well as ways to increase Romania’s security and collective defense and deterrence capacity. Secretary General Rutte will attend the NATO Defense Industry Forum, hosted by Bucharest over November 5 and 6, an event designed to boost strategic dialogue with the defense industries NATO states. According to the official website of NATO, the NATO official “will speak about the importance of increasing production in the field of Defense and the value that close ties with this industry bring”. Mark Rutte will also meet, in Bucharest, with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, Senate Speaker, Mircea Abrudean, and Chamber of Deputies Speaker, Sorin Grindeanu, and with other officials. (VP)
