Forum. President Nicusor Dan and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte are today attending the NATO-Industry Forum in Bucharest. The Romanian president said the increasingly diverse threats we are facing are a reminder that peace and security are never guaranteed and rearmament is not a choice, but a necessity. The NATO Secretary General said the dialogue between NATO and industry is essential, because the Russian threat will not end with the war in Ukraine, and the Alliance will have to be prepared in the long term. The Forum hosted by Bucharest brings together more than 800 participants from 26 different NATO member and partner states, as well as more than 300 defence industry companies. The main goals of the event is to explore concrete solutions to boost NATO’s defence capacity. On Wednesday, Mark Rutte held talks with senior Romanian officials, conveying a strong message of support for Romania in case of an aggression.

Citizenship. British journalist and film producer Charlie Ottley has obtained Romanian citizenship and is today taking his oath of allegiance to Romania in a solemn ceremony hosted by the National Authority for Citizenship. A statement from this institution notes that citizens from the United States of America, Italy, Turkey, Brazil, Jordan, Lebanon, Serbia and India are also taking the oath today, which confirms Romania’s global vocation and the strength of its human and diplomatic ties. The National Authority for Citizenship recalls that Charlie Ottley has made a remarkable contribution to promoting Romanian tourism, culture and natural heritage worldwide. Through his exceptional documentaries Wild Carpathia and Flavours of Romania, he has captured the spirit, authenticity and picturesque beauty of Romania.

Cathedral. The period of prayer to the altar of the new National Cathedral in Bucharest, which was consecrated on 26th October, ended on Wednesday at midnight. For 11 days, some 315,000 pilgrims from Romania and abroad visited the Orthodox cathedral. The Romanian Patriarchate said the place is still open for visitors until November 14th between 11 am and 7 pm, before closing again for further interior works. It will reopen on 30th November for the celebration of the Feast of St. Andrew, the patron saint of Romania and of the National Cathedral, and of the National Day on 1st December, and will also stay open for visitors on 2nd December. Between 3rd and 23rd December, the cathedral will close again before reopening for visitors between 24th December and 8th January, from 9 am to 5 pm.

Ambassador. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Munteanu, today met the Romanian Ambassador to Chisinau, Cristian-Leon Ţurcanu. Talks focused on the main areas of cooperation between the two states, economy, trade, energy, as well as joint infrastructure projects. “Romania is a strategic partner and a firm supporter of our country on its European path. We will continue to have special cooperation, which will be beneficial to the citizens of both states,” said Alexandru Munteanu. Ambassador Cristian-Leon Ţurcanu congratulated the Prime Minister in Chisinau on taking office and reiterated Romania’s commitment to continue to provide full support to the Republic of Moldova in its development process and European integration.

Moldova. The Russian Cultural Centre in Chisinau will be closed, after Moldovan intelligence services provided evidence that the centre is, in fact, covering up actions by the Russian security services aimed at undermining the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova. As a result, the government has begun cancelling the agreement with Russia on the centre’s operation. According to the Moldovan culture minister Cristian Jardan, in the context of Russian aggression against Ukraine and Moscow’s attempts to destabilise the Republic of Moldova, the centre’s activity poses a risk to Moldova’s state security. Russian cultural centres were also suspended in other European countries after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, including Romania. The Kremlin has criticised Moldova’s move, saying the authorities in Chisinau are denying everything related to Russia.

Football.  Romanian football champions FCSB are tonight facing FC Basel away, in a fourth round Europa League match. After three rounds, FC Basel are in 24th place, and FCSB in 28th. For a chance to reach the play-offs, the Bucharest side need at least one point against FC Basel. Also this evening, Universitatea Craiova are playing the Austrian side Rapid Vienna in an away match, in the third round of the Conference League football competition. (CM)
