Romania’s draft state budget for 2014 will be ready by the end of this month, after talks with IMF, European Commission and World Bank experts, Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced. According to Ponta, the project will be approved by the Government on the first week of November and then sent to Parliament for debate. According to the Prime Minister, the next year’s budget will support investment using both European and government funds.



Two new earthquakes took place on Saturday night in the Vrancea area in eastern Romania, measuring 3 degrees on the Richter scale. They come only a week after a 5.5 – magnitude earthquake that was felt in Bucharest, Northern Bulgaria and the Republic of Moldova. Another 6 earthquakes took place in the Vrancea area this year. The neighbouring county Galati has been affected, starting September 23, by over 225 surface quackes of which 30 with magnitudes that exceeded 2.5 on the Richter scale.



New protest actions are being staged in Bucharest today against the gold and silver mining project in Rosia Montana, in central Romania. On Friday, a special parliamenatry committee completed the hearings in this case and has one week to draw up a report and submit it to Parliament for debate. For the past three weeks, the committee has been hearing Government members, representatives of the Canadian investor and civil society representatives. We remind you that in Bucharest and other Romanian cities, throusands of people took to the streets in protest at the gold and silver mining project in Rosia Montana, while miners in the area voiced their support for the project.



The Slovenian-German coproduction Boles”, by young director Spela Cadez won the 8th edition of the Anim’est International festival, the most important annimation event in Romania. The prize for best feature film went to the French director Jean-Christophe Dessaint, for The Day of the Crows”, while another French film, Women’s Letters”, won the award for best short film. Over 1000 productions from 65 countries were screened for more than a week at the Anim’est festival in Bucharest. The festival is member of the Cartoon pan-European circuit and, as of 2002, has been supported by the MEDIA programme.
