Estonia is fully committed to supporting Romania’s accession to the Schengen area, Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves said on the occassion of his official visit to Bucharest on Wednesday. The Estonian President met with his Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu. The two agreed on the fact that bilateral ties are very good, and that they share the same stand on issues like EU enlargement, the two countries’ role within the Union and the Eastern Partnership. On the other hand, Estonia’s President, who took part in a bilateral business meeting, called on the Romanian and Estonian businesspeople to work together to strenghetn their domestic economies. Romania and Estonia are interested in developing dialogue and cooperation in sectors like IT and communication, defense and security, real estate and constructions.
The Italian centre-right coalition government headed by Enrico Letta won a crucial confidence vote on Wednesday in the Senate, thus avoiding a political deadlock. It was PM Letta who asked for a confidence vote, after Saturday’s decision of the former centre-right prime minister Silvio Berlusconi to withdraw from the coalition government five ministers, members of his party. On Wednesday Berlusconi reconsidered his decision and reaffirmed his trust in Letta’s government. Analysts say that Berlusconi is afraid he might lose his senator seat and his parliamentary immunity, following the 1-year prison sentence for fiscal fraud he received this summer.
“Child’s Pose”, a film directed by the Romanian Calin Peter Netzer, that has won the Golden Bear in Berlin this year, will be distributed in the American cinemas starting next February. According to the website variety.com, the film, which has already been sold in 20 countries, was first screened in Noth America last month, at the Toronto International Film Festival. Child’s Pose” is Romania’s entry to next year’s Oscars, in the best foreign film category.
The first edition of the International Radio Drama Festival ‘Grand Prix Nova’, organized by Radio Romania and held under the patronage of her Royal Highness, Crown Princess Margareta of Romania, continues in Bucharest. Over 50 radio dramas from 22 countries have been included in the competition. The productions can be listened to every day until October 5, on Radio Romania’s portal eTeatru.ro. On the same website listeners can also find the entries’ scripts in English. The festival is organized upon the 85th anniversary of the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation.
