The republic will either maintain its course and kick off talks for EU accession or drop the democratic reforms and rejoin Moscow’s sphere of influence. The ruling pro-European Party for Action and Solidarity and several pro-Russia blocs are vying for Parliament seats. The election unfolds against several attempts to influence the voters, destabilize and spread disinformation, as well as cyber attacks, the Moldovan authorities are blaming on Russia. The Moldovan citizens abroad are able to vote in over 300 polling stations, most of them in Italy, Germany, France, Britain and Romania. Referring to Moscow’s propaganda, which suggests the elections in the Republic are not correct, Sandu says that Russia is not in the position to give lessons in democracy as its leadership has not changed in decades. Sandu has advised the Moldovan citizens not to cave in to false narratives, adding that democracy is only in their hands.
