Political developments in Bucharest

President Nicușor Dan announced he will designate a candidate for the position of Prime Minister over the coming days. The president noted that, due to the parliamentary recess, convening a legislative session to vote on the investiture of a new Cabinet would have been difficult to organize. Romania has lacked a stable government since early May, following Parliament’s adoption of a motion of no confidence against the Cabinet led by Liberal Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, who continues to serve in an interim capacity.

Romania advocates for strong cohesion and agriculture funds in next EU budget

Romania wants an “ambitious” future European Union budget, with substantial funding allocated to the Cohesion and Agriculture sectors, President Nicușor Dan told a press conference held jointly with European Council President António Costa. On Thursday, Dan received the European official in Bucharest, who was on a consultation visit regarding Romania’s priorities and concerns. The Romanian President said that the primary topic of discussion was the negotiation of the upcoming 2028–2034 EU budget. Talks also covered the EU expansion process, the security developments and ongoing European Union support for Ukraine. On Thursday, the European Council President also visited Bulgaria and Greece, following prior stops in Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia and Luxembourg.

According to the institute, three of these cases resulted in fatalities involving elderly individuals with a medical history. Health authorities strongly recommend avoiding mosquito exposure and using chemical repellents.
