Bronze for the Romanian Handball in the Champions League
Romania's women handballers rank third in the Champions League

The Romanian women’s handball side CSM Bucharest won the match for the third place in the Champions League. On Sunday in Budapest, Romania’s vice-champions won bronze after a 32-26 win against the French side, Brest Bretagne.
Slovenian player Elizabeth Omoregie was CSM’s best scorer with eight goals scored in her last game for this team. Crina Pintea and Montenegrin Tatjana Brnović have each scored five goals. On Saturday in the semifinals, CSM lost to the French side, Metz 27 – 32, and Metz won the finals against the Hungarians from Gyor on Sunday, final score 31 – 29. That has been the first success of the French side at their fifth presence in Final Four. For CSM it has been their third bronze after those won in 2017 and 2018. We recall they won the Champions League in 2016.
The Romanian eleven secured a 2 – 1 win against Wales in a friendly match in Bucharest on Saturday. Florinel Coman put the Romanians in the lead in the 52nd minute, and Adrian Rus added a second on minute 80. David Brooks scored for the visitors in the 64th minute. Also last week on Tuesday Romania drew their game against Georgia in Tbilisi, one-all. Louis Munteanu scored for Romania. Headcoach Gheorghe Hagi returned to the Romanian national eleven after an absence of 25 years and included several young players in the lineup. The match against Wales was the last before those scheduled in the Nations League this autumn. We recall that Romania will be up against Sweden in an away match on September 25th, and play Bosnia and Herzegovina at home three days later. They will go to Poland on October the 2nd and play Sweden at home on October 5th. Also this year on November 14th Romania will be up against Poland at home, and will go to Bosnia three days later.
London is these days hosting a WTA 500 tournament ahead of the famous Wimbledon late this month. Romania’s seventh-seeded representative on the main draw, Sorana Cirstea, will be playing Australian Madison Inglis on Tuesday.
