The recent cold snap that has gripped Romania has taken its toll on the ongoing football season as well. The first round of the Group 1-Group 2 stage in the League One domestic season, scheduled to take place at the weekend, was delayed.

The Professional Football League Secretary Justin Stefan has told Agerpres news agency: “Because of heavy snow falls, many football pitches are impracticable, with the risk of injuries for footballers being quite high. The scheduled round will be delayed by one week. So basically, Group 1 and Group 2 matches will be closing a week later than initially scheduled.

The match pitting the 2017 champion team Viitorul Constanta against vice-champion FCSB will be played between the weekend fixtures of the regular season.

The delay of the football matches because of the extremely cold weather that has held Romania in its grip has reopened the discussion on the prospective organization of the competition season. However, the Romanian Football Federation President Razvan Burleanu stated that the spring-autumn season system is not feasible because League Ones revenues from TV transmission rights will decrease.

Also, once in two years, the competition should be interrupted because European and World football championships are usually held in the summer. The idea of resorting to the spring-summer season was put forward by Ionut Lupescu. The former footballer is Razvan Burleanus contender in the race for the top position of the Romanian Football Federation. The proposal has also been hailed by the President of the Professional Footbal League, Gino Iorgulescu.

We go out with news from womens football, as the match pitting the Romanian national football team against the similar team of Ukraine ended in a blank draw. This past Wednesdays match was hosted by the Turkish city of Side, as part of the Gold City Cup friendly tournament.
