38 rowers from Romania are these days attending the World Rowing
Championships underway in the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv. Two Romanian crews
already qualified for the semifinals on the competition’s first day on Sunday.
The Romanian four made up of Mihai-Vasile Tiganescu, Cosmin Pascari, Stefan-Constantin
Berariu and Ciprian Huc came second in the competition’s heat two. The Romanian
lightweight women’s double sculls made up of Ionela-Livia Cozmiuc and
Gianina-Elena Beleaga, who are also defending champions, ended heat four in
second place.

Two Romanian crews qualified through repechage on Tuesday. Elena
Logofatu, Georgiana Vasile, Nicoleta Pascanu and Simona Radis, who made the Romanian
women’s quadruple scull, ended the repechage race in the first position. The
Romanian four made up of Madalina Heghes, Iuliana Buhus, Madalina Casu and
Roxana Parascanu came second in the repechage race.

Fans have pinned their hopes on the world and European defending
champions, the Romanian eight, which still remains a strong crew even after the
withdrawal of Mihaela Petrila, Adelina Bogus and Laura Oprea. The Romanian
women’s pair boat is not attending the competition as Madalina Beres and Denisa
Tilvescu have joined the Romanian eight. Had they participated in both
competitions, Beres and Tilvescu would have run in 7 races over 7 days.

We recall that at the European Championships in Glasgow in early August,
athletes of Romania reaped 7 medals, three gold, two silver and two bronze.
These results placed Romania on the fist position in the medal standings.
