The European Weightlifting Championship are underway in Sofia. After three days, the Romanian delegation has won six medals. ON Monday, Mihaela Cambei won three gold medals, in the 49-kilogram category, in the snatch, clean and jerk and combined. Also on Monday, in the 45-kilogram category, Ioana Mădălina Miron walked away with bronze in the clean and jerk style. In the 61-kilogram category on Tuesday, Valentin Ionadi Iancu won bronze in the snatch style. On Wednesday, Andreea Cotruţa won bronze in the 59-kilogram category, also in the snatch style.

The European Wrestling Championships are underway in Bucharest. Early into the competition, the Romanian wrestlers won two bronze medals in the Greek-Roman style, through Denis Florin Mihai, in the 55-kilograme and Răzvan Arnăut, in the 60-kilogram category. A 30-strong Romanian delegation competes in the European Championships in Bucharest.

The organizers of the WTA 250 Transylvania Open women’s tennis tournament on Wednesday have announced they purchased the permanent license for the tournament in Cluj-Napoca. Accordingly, the event will be staged annually in early February. In 2024, the competition was held on hard court, over February 3 and 11 while the winner was former WTA no 1 tennis player, Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic. In 2025, the tournament will be held over February 1st and 9th. For two years running, the tournament in Cluj was designated the world’s best tournament in the WTA 250 category.

In women’s volleyball, Rapid Bucharest has regained its place at the top of the table in first-tier division. In a fixture counting towards the domestic championship’s 18th round, this past Wednesday Rapid grabbed a 3-nil home win against CSM Constanta. Holders Volei Alba Blaj defeated Dinamo Bucharest, also 3-nil in the domestic championship’s derby. Rapid Bucharest have 42 points, while Volei Alba Blaj, 41.
