Romania’s under 21 football side has secured a one-nil win against the selection of Georgia in a friendly game during their training campaign in Austria. Andrei Borza scored for the Romanians in the 72nd minute of the game. The match took place in Vorau, Austria, and was part of the training campaign of our footballers for the European Championship due to kick off in Slovakia next week. Romania is in Group A together with Slovakia, Spain and Italy. On Wednesday, June 11, the team coached by Daniel Pancu will be up against Italy in Trnava.
The score in the finals of the national male basketball league pitching CSM Oradea against U-BT Cluj-Napoca, is one-all on aggregate.
In the return game on Wednesday Oradea secured a home win 80-68. CSM’s best player was the Romanian international Kristopher Jameil Richard, with 18 points, 5 recoveries and 3 decisive passes. U-BT’s best player was also a naturalized US citizen, Patrick Richard, with 20 points and four recoveries. U-BT had won the first match 89 – 82. The finals is played after the best-out-of-five system and the next games are due in Cluj on June 8 and 10.
The European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics started in Tallin, Estonia on Wednesday. The Romanians’ hopes are pinned on their 16 year old athlete, Amalia Lica, multiple European champion in junior competitions.
Lica has just made her promising debut in senior competitions this year. In May, she came second in the clubs event, third in the hoop and fourth in the ball contests of the European Cup, in Burgas, Bulgaria.
