The Dinamo Bucharest men’s handball team started the new Champions League season with a defeat. The Romanian team lost at home to Sporting Lisbon 33-30, in a game in Group A. The best scorers for the Romanian champions were the Brazilian Haniel Langaro and Ukrainian Andryi Akimenko, each with 5 goals. The next Champions League match for Dinamo team will take place on September 17, in Norway, in Trondheim, against Kolstad Håndball.
In women’s handball, let us note that the two teams representing Romania in the Champions League grabbed victories, on Wednesday, in the National League. CSM Bucharest defeated Dunărea Brăila 38-33 at home, whereas Gloria Bistrița defeated CSM Târgu Jiu 31-23 away from home. CSM tops the standings with 6 points from 3 matches. Gloria and Corona Braşov follow, both with 4 points in 2 matches.
The Tour of Romania cycling event has begun. The first stage took place on the segment linking Craiova and Râmnicu Vâlcea, cities in Oltenia, a region located in southwestern Romania. Austrian Maximilian Schmidbauer won, followed by Irishman Seth Dunwoody and Polishman Tobiasz Pawlak. The best-placed Romanian was Iustin-Ioan Văidian, who finished in 27th place. The competition will end on Sunday, with a stage hosted by Bucharest.
The Romanian Rowing Federation on Wednesday announced the full delegation for the 2025 edition of the World Championships, which will be hosted by Shanghai, China, over September 21-28. The lineup is provisional, however, with the regulations allowing headcoaches to change up to half of the delegation. For the first time in the history of the competition, the program will include mixed double sculls and 8+1 events.
The football team FC U Craiova was excluded on Wednesday by the Romanian Rowing Federation from all ongoing competitions. The sanction comes as a result of the debts accumulated by the club towards various creditors. The decision can be appealed. (VP)
