Romania’s basketball champion side carries on its progress towards the EuroCup quarterfinals

U-BT Cluj-Napoca clinched a clear 118-97 home win against the Lithuanian side Neptunas Klaipeda on Wednesday in Group A of EuroCup. The hosts’ best player proved to be Australian Mitchell Creek with 40 points and 4 balls recovered.
The Romanian champions will be playing their next game at home against Polish side Slask Wroclaw on December 30th. Israel side Hapoel Jerusalem tops the group’s table with nine wins and two defeats while Cluj ranks fourth with six wins and five defeats. The first two sides in the rankings are going directly into the quarterfinals and the sides on the third, fourth and fifth positions are playing tie matches for a position in the quarters.
In FIBA Europe Cup, Group L, Romanian side CSM CSU Oradea was defeated by Italian side Pallacanestro Reggiana, 90-59. The Romanian international of American extraction, Kris Richard, proved to be Oradea’s best player with 21 points and 3 balls recovered. In the group’s other match Bosna Sarajevo secured an 85-82 win against Cedevita Junior Zagreb. Reggiana ranks first in the group with 4 points followed by Bosna, also with 4 points. The last two sides in the ranking Cedevita Junior and CSM CSU Oradea will be playing each other in Romania on January 14th.
Wednesday saw the matches counting towards the quarterfinals of Romania’s Cup in women’s volleyball. Trophy holder CSM Alba-Blaj took a huge step towards the semis after a 3-1 away win against CSM Constanţa. In Bucharest, local side Dinamo won 3-0 against Rapid. Also a 3-0 win obtained CSM Bucharest against Corona Braşov. Earlier on Monday, in the first match of the quarters CSO Voluntari, the finalist of the last season, secured a 3-0 win against CSM Lugoj cu 3-0. The return matches are due on January 21.
