Dinamo Bucharest and FCSB will meet on Friday in a match that will determine the second Romanian team to enter the qualifying rounds of the Conference League.

Romanian tennis player Sorana Cîrstea advanced with ease to the third round of the French Open. In the second round, she defeated Germany’s Eva Lys on Wednesday, 6–3, 6–0. The Romanian needed only 63 minutes to secure victory. Cîrstea has now taken the lead in their head to head encounters, 2–1. Lys prevailed in 2023 in the opening round of the Transylvania Open, after which Sorana won in January of this year in the first round of the Australian Open. By qualifying for the round of 32 at Roland Garros, Cîrstea, seeded 18th, has secured a cheque of 187,000 euros and 130 WTA points. Her next opponent will be Argentina’s Solana Sierra.
In Varna, Bulgaria, the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships are underway. The competitions began on Wednesday with the junior events. Romania qualified two athletes for the apparatus finals scheduled for Thursday: Patricia Stanciu, who placed sixth in the ball qualification, and Elisabeta Corduneanu, also sixth in the ribbon qualification. In the team standings, Romania finished in 11th place. The senior competitions will follow.
In football, the team of Romanian defender Andrei Rațiu, Rayo Vallecano, failed to win the continental Conference League title. In the final held Wednesday in Leipzig, the Spanish side was defeated 1–0 by England’s Crystal Palace. It was the London club’s first European trophy in its 120 year history.
From Romanian football, it is worth noting that the play off final for a place in the Conference League qualifiers will take place on Friday. In Bucharest, Dinamo, fourth place finisher in the Superliga play off, will face FCSB, the winner of the match between the top two teams from the play out entitled to compete in Europe. Also entering European competitions are Universitatea Craiova, champions and winners of the Romanian Cup, who will play in the Champions League qualifiers, Universitatea Cluj, the Cup finalists, who advance to the Europa League qualifiers and CFR Cluj, third in the league, who will compete in the Conference League qualifying rounds.
