The European Women’s Boxing Championship in underway in Montenegro’s Budva. No Romanian woman boxer has advanced to the semi-finals. On Wednesday in the 60-kilogram category quarterfinals, Loredana Marin was defeated by Kossovo’s Donjeta Sadiku. Also in the quarterfinals, but on Tuesday, Claudia Nechita sustained a defeat on points, in the match against Michaela Walsh of Ireland. Steluța Duță, in the 48-kilogram category, Alexandra Gheorghe, in the 50-kilogram category and Lăcrămioara Perijoc, in the 54-kilogram category, have been eliminated in the competition’s very first round.
All four Romanian teams that this past Wednesday competed in the European men’s basketball cups have a win-all record. In EuroCup, Group A, U BT Cluj-Napoca grabbed a home win against Olimpija Ljubljana, 94-76. În FIBA Europe Cup, Group H, SCM Craiova snatched a 73-60 away win against German opponents Merlins Crailsheim. In Ploiesti, CSO Voluntari secured a 75-60 win against Norrköping Dolphins of Sweden. Also in FIBA Europe Cup, Group E, CSM CSU Oradea trounced Bulgarian opponents Rilski Sportist Samokov, 99-63, on home court.
In news from women’s handball, on Wednesday, SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea secured a home win against holders Rapid Bucharest, 37-36. The fixture counted towards the National League’s 7th round. SCM Ramnicu Valcea’s Serbian handballer Jovana Kovačević sealed the fate of the game in the last second of play. Also on Wednesday CSM Bucharest grabbed a 26-20 away win against Minaur Baia Mare. This coming weekend, Bucharest teams Rapid and CSM play their fixtures in the 6th-round as part of the Champions League’s group stage.
First-round matches counting towards the Romanian Cup in football’s group stage are played this week. On Tuesday, in Group A, the match pitting Dinamo Bucharest against FC U Craiova ended in a blank draw. In Group C, Alexandria and Farul Constanța drew, 2-all. Also in Group C, Rapid Bucharest defeated Dumbrăvița, 4-1. In Group A on Wednesday, FC Voluntari grabbed a 1-nil away win against Unirea Slobozia, while in Group B, FC Botoșani secured a 1-nil away win against Gloria Buzău. Also in Group B, UTA Arad drew against FCSB, 2-all. In Group D, Ocna Mureș defeated Chindia Târgoviște, 1-nil, while in Medias, Universitatea Craiova secured a 2-nil away win against Hermannstadt. On Thursday in Group A, Petrolul Ploiești face Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe Oțelul Galați play CS Mioveni, in Groupa B. In Group C, Universitatea Cluj are pitted against CFR Cluj, while Minaur Baia Mare take on FC Argeș in Group D.(EN)
