The U-BT Cluj-Napoca men’s basketball team won its sixth consecutive Romanian championship title. They defeated defeated CSM CSU Oradea 74-72 at home on Wednesday in the fourth match of the National League final. The overall score of the final was 3-1 for U-BT. The team from Oradea won the first match 87-84, but Cluj won the following three, 88-83 on the Oradea Arena, followed by 103-78 and 74-72 at home. On Wednesday, in the fourth match, U-BT were only threatenned towards the end of the match, as they only scored one point in the last four minutes of play, while Oradea scored eight. However, CSM CSU failed to make a decisive comeback, and U-BT went on to win themselves a new title. The best player of the match was the Romanian-American international Daron Russell, who delivered 23 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists.

The Cluj team now have eight national titles to their record sheet, which they won in 2011, 2017 and every year from 2021 to 2026. This season, they also won  the Romanian Super Cup and the Romanian Cup. The team from Oradea have three championship titles, which they won in 2016, 2018 and 2019, having lost four finals in a row to Cluj.

After her excellent run at Roland Garros, the Romanian tennis player Sorana Cîrstea has returned to Bucharest. Upon arrival at the airport, she reconfirmed to the press that 2026 will be her last year as a professional player, emphasising that the good performance in Paris will not change her decision. She reached the quarterfinals of the French Open, which earned her 470,000 dollars in prize money.

Let’s end this roundup with handball. The final tournament of the women’s handball Champions League is taking place in Budapest this weekend. The official presentation of the teams and the official opening of the Fan Zone on the MVM Dome arena will take place on Friday, at 6:00 p.m, local time. On Saturday, at 3:00 p.m. local time, Romania’s CSM București are playing their first semifinal against the French team Metz Handball. This will be followed by the second semi-final, between the Hungarian and French champions, Győr and Brest Bretagne. The finals are scheduled for Sunday.
