AQUATICS: The European Aquatics Championships are currently underway in Paris. The opening days of the tournament were dedicated to artistic swimming and diving events. So far, the best results for the Romanian delegation are two seventh-place finishes. The first was secured by the duo Amelie Foerster/ Alexandru Avasiloae in the mixed synchronized 3-meter springboard final, followed by Ioana-Andreea Cârcu and Nazanin-Adelyne Ellahi in the women’s synchronized 10-meter platform event. Romania’s first major medal contenders are set to compete on Friday, when Constantin Popovici and Cătălin Preda take the stage in the high diving competition. The pool swimming events will start on Monday, with David Popovici as favorite in both the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle events.

TENNIS: Romanian women tennis players have been eliminated from the singles draw at the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto, an event with a total of 7,433,000 dollars in prize money put up for grabs. In Tuesday’s second round, Elena Gabriela Ruse fell to Austria’s Anastasia Potapova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. On Wednesday, 14th seed Sorana Cîrstea was also knocked out, losing 6-4, 6-4 to Australia’s Maya Joint, ranked 78th in the world. Both Romanians leave Canada with 28,425 dollars and 35 WTA points.

RUGBY: The Romanian Rugby Federation announced on Wednesday that players Fonovai Tangimana, Jason Tomane, and Kuselo Moyake have officially become Romanian citizens after taking the oath of allegiance at the National Citizenship Authority headquarters. A native of Tonga, Fonovai Tangimana made his international debut for Romania in November 2016 during a test match against the United States. He has since earned 39 caps for the national team.
